After losing more than 100 pounds and completing his second Savage Race, athlete Dustin Adkins decided to commemorate his inspiring journey to health by getting the Savage Race logo tattooed on his calf. “To me,” Dustin shares, “it is a symbol of both my decision to live a healthier lifestyle and the sport that made that possible for me.”
Dustin’s hard-fought journey to achieve health and fitness took over a year of dedicated effort and training. It started with a challenge from a friend to attend a smaller, less intense obstacle course race. Then he was invited to run a Savage Race. After that, he was hooked. Since the spring of 2013 Dustin has participated in three Maryland Savage Race events, with each experience better than the last.
June 7, 2014 marked the most important day so far in the lives of Casey and Jessica Kahsen, who said their “I Do’s” in front of their closest friends and family… and a huge crowd of Savage Racers waiting in the corral to start their race.
What did Jessica think of having her fairytale wedding at an event like this? “I absolutely loved it,” she said. “We joke with everyone that it was just a practice run, and we’re going to do it again next year.” Jessica expressed that part of her missed having a more traditional wedding complete with her dream dress, but at the end of the day, “It was just about marrying HIM. It was totally worth it.”
Back in May 2013, nine Soldiers were involved in incidents resulting in loss of life, limb, and other serious injuries in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan. To help these Soldiers and their families with incurring expenses, several Soldiers from the 766th EOD Company will participate in the Central Florida Savage Race on October 19th, 2013.
In honor of those who lost their lives, and who were severely wounded, the three administrators of the “GMSOS” organization will be running Savage Race in full EOD Bomb Suits.
