SAM ABBITT

(CEO and Co-Founder)

Sam Abbitt’s interest in obstacle racing, fitness and endurance sports is what drove him to create Savage Race. Sam earned his MBA and a second master’s degree in building construction from the University of Florida (Go Gators!). When he’s not working on organizing mud runs, Sam is traveling, working out at his local CrossFit gym, swinging kettlebells, or growing shiitaki mushrooms in his back yard. Sam is a snowboarder, surfer, scuba diver, bull rider, hot sauce lover, and dog owner.

Lloyd Parker

COO and Co-Founder

Lloyd is in charge of making sure that the race course is bad ass on race day. He carefully checks the mud to ensure that it is deep and thick. He masterfully designs and builds extreme obstacles so that they test your limits. Thanks to Lloyd’s genius, the Savage Race course is the best mud run in the business. Having lived for several years in Lake Tahoe, California, Lloyd has a passion for traveling, snowboarding and outdoor recreation.

Bo Burton

Event Operations Manager

Bo was a two-sport athlete and earned his Bachelor’s degree at West Virginia State University and then returned home where he earned his Master’s at the University of Central Florida. Bo has a passion for mountain biking, snowboarding, and beach volleyball. His favorite obstacle is Colossus, because the near-vertical slide gives him butterflies in his stomach, just like his high school crush.

Sean Wolters

Event Operations Manager

Born and raised on the South Shore of Long Island (or Lawn Guyland if you asked him to tawk about it) Sean spent more time as a kid playing music than sports. After finishing high school Sean moved to Orlando where he received his Bachelor’s and MBA from the University of Central Florida. While working as a Business Analyst and Consultant at UCF, Sean was introduced to the Savage Race crew and became hooked on everything obstacle racing. When he’s not tracking down the next Savage venue, he can be found adding race medals to his collection, playing music, and honing his negotiating skills by spending time with his mother and fiancé.

Lee Stowell

Race Director

Hailing from the deep woods of western Massachusetts, Lee loves to be in the thick of it. Could be the course, the mud, building obstacles, or flying through accessories on the Savage Rig. Getting his start in ultramarathon running, he migrated to obstacle races for all the fun and air time. He joined the build team to get closer to the action, and now has his fingerprints on some the best courses and obstacles in the industry. You can find him hyping up the JRs at the start line, monitoring the most remote areas of the course, or running right beside you!

Theresa Spadola

Co Race Director

While she calls New Jersey home, she sold her soul to the open road and likes it that way. Between designing courses, both adult and Junior, building obstacles and course marking, she stays busy all season long. Catch her filming the pro wave, hyping the JR races up, or grabbing a snack at the food vendors. When she’s not onsite she’ll be outside with her dog, reading any and all books she can find or enjoying her photography hobby. Noted skills include dad jokes on command and flipping the perfect pancake every time.

Jessika Poppe

Jessika “Taps” Poppe is an obstacle course lover who chose to work for Savage Race after volunteering at the Florida fall event in 2016. She loves the outdoors, hiking, running and biking. Jessika is an ultramarathoner and an Appalachian Trail thru hiker. She owes her success of the Appalachian Trail to the grit of obstacle course racing. Her favorite obstacle is Anchor’s Aweigh because it’s challenging and fun to swing across. On race day you can find her in the merchandise tent or pouring your post race beer.

Rachel Hunt

Volunteer Coordinator

Rachel is an endurance athlete, mother of three, and wife of an Army Veteran who is currently living in Lithia, Florida. Rachel fell in love with Obstacle Course Racing back in 2014. That passion has blossomed into a career she loves at Savage Race. Her favorite Savage Race Obstacle is Wheel World. It takes the right technique to master, it’s tons of fun, and still a challenging obstacle. On race day you can find Rachel directing volunteers, ensuring volunteers and staff have a lunch for the day, being in exactly 82 places at once, or cheering on Savage Race finishers!

Jeff Meeks

Emcee

With the most suave rendition of the national anthem in the history of mankind, Jeff revs up the first wave of every Savage Race. If you ever have an amazing story to tell, make sure you find Jeff on race day. He always has his microphone ready for an impromptu interview. Although he could probably win the push-up contest with one arm, he humbly lets the participants challenge one another on the main stage.

Noah Casson

Build Crew

Noah crawls out of the bogs of the panhandle of Florida (lower Alabama). He enjoys climbing anything that crosses his path and attempting to out pun Lee. Outside of Savage Race, Noah loves to travel the country hiking and riding motorcycles. He got into obstacle course racing as a kid when his dad brought him to a Savage Race for his 14th birthday and he has been running them ever since. Noah’s favorite thing to do on race day is either petting racers dogs or cheering on racers at the Savage Rig.
