Savage Race isn’t just about getting muddy and conquering obstacles. We’re not just about accomplishing goals and overcoming fears. And we’re not just about fun and fitness and making memories of a lifetime.
No, Savage Race is about so much more than that.
What makes Savage Race so great is YOU and your support of one another before, during, and after the race.
Savage Race is about community.
If you’ve been to one of our events, you know what we’re talking about. Everywhere you look, you’ll see fellow Savages cheering each other on. You’ll watch strangers give one another a hand up over the ledge of Colossus. You’ll see friends give each other that verbal push it takes to leap off the edge of Davy Jones Locker.
Our community is what makes Savage Race what it is. And now we’re asking you to come together as that community to help us raise funds for hurricane relief.
On August 25th, 2017, Hurricane Harvey made landfall on the coast of Texas as a Category 4 storm at peak strength. Intense winds and a huge storm surge affected the state. Then, the storm stalled over Texas for days, causing heavy rainfall and flash flooding.
The results were devastating. Thousands of homes flooded beyond repair and more than 17,000 rescues took place. Lives were lost and the cost of the damage is in the billions.
Then, on September 10, 2017, Hurricane Irma struck the Florida Keys as a massive Category 4 storm. In the largest evacuation in Florida’s history, hundreds of thousands of Floridians fled their homes ahead of the hurricane.
Storm surges, flooding and tornadoes took place across the entire state. An estimated 25% of buildings in the Keys were completely destroyed. Over 4 million customers lost power for hours or even days. More lives were lost and the extent of the damage was again in the billions.
Needless to say, these communities – both very near and dear to Savage Race – have been devastated.
The very first Savage Race took place in Florida in August of 2011. Our company headquarters is in the Sunshine State, and many of our employees live in Florida. We race in Florida two times a year. (And thankfully, all our big obstacles survived the storm intact.)
Texas is also home to Savage Race events. In November of 2015, we held our first race in Houston. We also have an annual race in Dallas. Our Savage Race community in Texas is strong!
Many families need help recovering and rebuilding. We want to help. We need to help. And we invite you – our Savage community – to help too. Here’s how:
We’ve designed two special t-shirts (Savages for Houston and Savages for Florida) to help raise funds for those in need. 100% of the net proceeds from the sale of these limited edition shirts will be donated to hurricane relief efforts in partnership with Team Rubicon.
Team Rubicon is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization who works with military veterans to provide disaster relief in the United States and abroad. Their mission is to “unite the skills and experiences of military veterans with first responders to rapidly deploy emergency response teams.”
Please consider purchasing one or both of these t-shirts in support of Texas and Florida. You can find them here.
If you have one too many t-shirts in your closet already, we’d still like to encourage you to donate. You can make a donation directly on the Team Rubicon website, or give to another of the many incredible organizations out there who are doing everything they can to support those impacted by the hurricanes.
And above all else, thank you for your care and support. Savage Race wouldn’t be what it is today without all of you. We’ll see you soon, Savages!
