SavageRace Field Team Carpenter


We’re looking for a talented person to join the Savage Race team on the road as a field team carpenter who will be responsible for designing, building, installing, and repairing obstacle structures, using many different types of materials.

Our field team has a rigorous work schedule, traveling from site to site leading up to each of our events. The majority of your time will be spent on the road. Pay is hourly, with regular opportunities to earn overtime pay. (50-60 hour work weeks are not uncommon.) There will be off-weeks (unpaid) between location assignments. Flexibility is key.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepare the layout of the projects.
  • Estimate height, width, length, and other proportions.
  • Select materials.
  • Work with blueprints or instructions from supervisors.
  • Work with materials such as wood, plastic, or steel.
  • Utilize chisels, planes, saws, drills, and sanders to repair and erect structures.
  • Join materials with nails, screws, staples, or adhesives.
  • Work on top of stilts, ladders, and the top beams of structures.
  • Check work along the way to ensure it’s up to code and specifications.
  • Use levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares, and surveying equipment to ensure everything is level and secure.
  • Operate machinery.

Required Experience:

  • 4+ years of experience as a professional carpenter.
  • Must have experience operating off-road forklifts and skid steers.
  • Excavation equipment experience is a plus, but not required.
